Dear Secretary Sin, 

It was an honor to meet you on May 8 during the briefing at the proposed Gypsum Canyon Veterans Cemetery site in Anaheim Hills. 

I truly appreciated the opportunity to briefly speak with you and take a 

photograph together during the event. 

As I mentioned during our conversation, I previously sent you a letter in January regarding the possibility of recognizing Korean Vietnam War 

veterans and other allied veterans within the future Southern California Veterans Cemetery at Gypsum Canyon. 

On behalf of many Korean American Vietnam War veterans residing in 

Southern California, I respectfully wish to reiterate our sincere hope that consideration may be given to establishing an Allied Veterans Memorial Section, commemorative monument, or other form of recognition within the cemetery grounds. 

Many Korean veterans fought alongside American forces during the 

Vietnam War, sharing sacrifice, hardship, and dedication in defense of 

freedom. 

Orange County is home to a large number of aging Korean Vietnam War veterans who later became proud American citizens and active members of the local community. 

The Gypsum Canyon project represents not only a long-awaited veterans cemetery for the region, but also an opportunity to honor the enduring 

alliance and brotherhood between the United States and the Republic of Korea. 

We deeply appreciate your leadership and continued efforts in advancing this important cemetery project. 

Thank you again for your time and courtesy during the May 8 briefing 

event. I respectfully hope CalVet will continue considering ways to 

recognize allied veterans who served alongside U.S. forces.

지난 5월 8일, Anaheim Hills에 위치한 Gypsum Canyon 재향군인 묘지 조성 예정지에서 열린 브리핑 행사에서 장관님을 뵙게 되어 영광이었습니다.

행사 도중 잠시나마 장관님과 대화를 나누고 함께 사진을 찍을 수 있는 기회를 갖게 되어 진심으로 감사드립니다.

대화 중에 말씀드렸던 바와 같이, 저는 지난 1월에 Gypsum Canyon에 조성될 남부 캘리포니아 재향군인 묘지 내에 한국인 베트남전 참전 용사 및 기타 연합군 참전 용사들을 기릴 수 있는 방안을 검토해 달라는 내용의 서신을 장관님께 보낸 바 있습니다.

남부 캘리포니아 지역에 거주하는 수많은 한국계 베트남전 참전 용사들을 대표하여, 저는 묘지 부지 내에 '연합군 재향군인 추모 구역'이나 기념비, 혹은 그 외의 적절한 형태의 추모 시설을 마련하는 방안을 긍정적으로 검토해 주시기를 바라는 저희의 간절한 소망을 다시 한번 정중히 말씀드리고자 합니다.

수많은 한국인 참전 용사들이 베트남전 당시 미군과 나란히 전투에 임했으며, 자유를 수호하기 위해 희생과 고난, 그리고 헌신을 함께 나누었습니다.

Orange County 지역에는 베트남전에 참전한 후 자랑스러운 미국 시민이 되어 지역 사회의 일원으로 활발히 활동하고 계신, 고령의 한국계 참전 용사들이 다수 거주하고 있습니다.

Gypsum Canyon 묘지 조성 프로젝트는 이 지역 주민들이 오랫동안 염원해 온 재향군인 묘지를 건립하는 의미를 넘어, 미국과 대한민국 간의 변함없는 동맹과 전우애를 기릴 수 있는 소중한 기회가 될 것입니다.

이 중요한 재향군인 묘지 조성 프로젝트를 추진하는 과정에서 보여주신 장관님의 리더십과 지속적인 노고에 깊은 감사를 드립니다.

지난 5월 8일 브리핑 행사에서 저희에게 할애해 주신 시간과 베풀어 주신 예우에 다시 한번 감사드립니다. 앞으로도 CalVet(캘리포니아주 재향군인부)에서 미군과 함께 복무했던 연합군 참전 용사들을 기릴 수 있는 다양한 방안을 지속적으로 검토해 주시기를 정중히 부탁드립니다.
