My name is Robert L. Harrison, USMC, VP Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 1024, Anaheim, California, VP Vietnam War Memorial in Westminster, Inc. 714 235-3255 Cell. 

 

I received your VVA 349 information from VVA Nationals and GOOGLE, where my inquiry was about the Korean Vietnam Veterans (ROC's) resolution that was withdrawn before the National Convention held in New Orleans in August.  A James Ulinski was identified as proposing Resolution 8 for the Koreans.

 

We have a large Korean (ROKs) population here in Southern California.  I have inquired and this may not be completely correct that there are up to 3,000 Korean ROKs, American Citizens. Korean Proud Vietnam Veterans want to be Vietnam Veterans members of the VVA and not just honorary members of the VVA.

 

I am wondering about us sharing information where James was identified as proposing the resolution initially, was there any Korean community contacts that spearheaded this attempt to enable Koreans that served in Vietnam become full VVA members? 

 

Pause for a moment.  Because of the withdrawal of the resolution at the National Convention, (I attended), this is not a dead issue.  A resolution should be made up to Amend the Vietnam Veterans of America Constitution to allow something like the Korean Certificate of Military Service with gives information as to their service in Vietnam be recognized as a DD-214 for membership.

 

Our VVA 1024 is in support of Koreans becoming complete VVA members.

 

Can you provide my contact information to James and anybody else that has been a part of assisting the Koreans.  Also, are there any Korean Vietnam Veterans a part of this proposal that you could provide contact information.  I will provide Korean information from individuals in Southern California as we perhaps work together on this endeavor.

The original resolution was adopted in 2021.  I have the name of the individual and his chapter # but that is all.

 

This resolution is null and void because it conflicts with our charter and the IRS 501 C19 restrictions.

Issue:  32,517 Korean Veterans served in Vietnam from 1967 until the end of 

the war at the request of the U.S.  Currently approximately 3,000 Korean 

American Veterans live in the U.S., but not permitted to join our Vietnam 

Veterans organization and have a separate organization. 

Background:  5,099 Korean soldiers were killed and 10,962 injured in 

Vietnam.  They served with the same honor, sense of duty, and valor as we 

did.  These patriots and citizens continue to fight for the same values as our 

VVA does.  Where they were born should not matter.8

Proposed position:  Vietnam Veterans of America should allow our Korean

Vietnam American Veterans brothers to become full fledge members of our 

great organization.  They had our backs many years ago and we should have 

theirs now.  None of our brothers should be left behind.  It should be noted 

that our chapter voted unanimously on this proposed convention resolutions.
